      Perimeter Security

Perimeter systems restrict the access of unauthorised persons and vehicles to an area while facilitating the entry of those who have a right to be on the premises. Our perimeter systems incorporate the latest technology from leading global security system manufacturers.

      Security Barriers

Barriers are used to prevent the movement of vehicles. There are active or passive barriers; with active barriers, there is a mechanism to open and close, allowing authorised vehicle access, whereas passive barriers prevent all access.

As a physical barrier and a deterrent to potential trespassers, security barriers can be a very successful security measure for controlling traffic flow and access around perimeters. There are a variety of barriers for security, ranging from speed bumps which simply slow traffic and full road closure barriers, which can temporarily stop all movement of traffic from a particular area.

Security barriers can be either permanent or temporary, depending on the intended use and duration of required control. Permanent barriers have a substructure built within the road, making the barrier more secure. Conversely, temporary barriers will be less secure and won’t withstand severe contact from a vehicle as they are placed on the road surface. However, these barriers can be used in a wider variety of circumstances and can be quickly deployed to add additional protection for scenarios with higher traffic than usual.

      Arm barrier

      • The arm allows vehicles to enter or exit.
      • Can be automatic or manual.
      • More affordable than a hydraulic system but not as secure.
      • Acts better as a visual deterrent and is not ram-proof.

      Height Barrier

      • Prevent entry for vehicles over a certain height.
      • Used to warn drivers about upcoming height restrictions that may cause damage to the vehicle and surrounding infrastructure.

Within our wide range of vehicle barrier solutions, you will find all manner of hydraulic and electro-mechanical automatic models, with articulated arm, rigid arm, top and bottom skirted, and just bottom-skirted versions.

      road blockers and bollards

      Barrier Types

      Road blockers and bollards

Traditionally, road blockers are yellow to increase visibility and to identify the lack of access. Limiting traffic flow in either or both directions is an effective way to block vehicles’ entry into an unguarded point.

Hydraulically powered blockers and bollards use power packs and systems contained within a steel cabinet beside the road, which is both ran proofs and offers a high level of security. Some blockers rely on gravity to lower the barrier, increasing the time it takes. Road blockers can also be integrated with fire systems to lower automatically in the event of a fire.

      Road Blockers

      • Use a hydraulic system to raise barriers from beneath the road.
      • Pressurised sensors are activated when a vehicle approaches from the correct direction.
      • Ideal for large car parks or busy sites – locations with high traffic volume.
      • Manual or automatic access control through various devices, such as a key card or numberplate recognition.
      • Fail-safe or Fail-secure? Fail-safe blockers automatically lower in the event of a power failure; fail-secure will remain raised.
      • Integrate blockers with fire systems to lower automatically in the event of a fire.

      Barriers and Bollards

      Barriers

      • Also known as raising curbs, consisting of a wide steel plate angled upwards.
      • These barriers lift from the ground to prevent and grant access.

      Bollards

      • Bollards are vertical cylinders protruding above the ground.
      • Can be either hydraulically or manually operated or static.
      • Used primarily to protect people and buildings from vehicles.
      • Tend to be painted yellow to increase visibility.

      Security Gates

At Sygma, we supply security gates to commercial, residential, educational, and high-security sites. Our range of automated and manual gates provide access to vehicles and pedestrians to allow the flow of access into a site to be monitored and controlled suitably. Ensuring the safety of the people and property within your premises is paramount; however, we also understand that allowing the right people access conveniently and comfortably requires an integrated security system. Security gates can be paired with a high-security fence, which is comprised of the same hard-wearing material.

Which security gate is best for your commercial premises? You must consider the availability of space, the volume of traffic, privacy and the required level of security.

      Swing gates

      • Swing gates offer pedestrian and vehicular access.
      • There must be enough space with no obstruction for the gate to swing open.
      • Generally cheaper to install and maintain than sliding gates.

      Sliding gates

      • Can be used when there is limited space available for a swing gate.
      • Operates on a cantilever or tracked system.
      • Tracker sliding gates run along a track below the gate with a nylon wheel. The track must be on level ground and clear from debris; otherwise, the gate will become jammed. Cantilever gates are counterbalanced and do not require a track.

      Bi-folding gates

      • Folding gates offer fast access without compromising security. They are ideal for: logistics deposits and deliveries, emergency services, business parks, public buildings with high pedestrian traffic, such as schools, colleges and universities, and car parks.
      • A solution for limited space, Bi-folding gates take up much less room than regular gates.
      • Ideal for environments with heavy traffic where the gates need to open and close quickly.
      • Sections of the gate expand when opening and compress when closed, similar to a Concertina or accordion.
      • Bi-folding gates can open twice as fast as regular gates.

Before securing your premises with a security gate, you must consider the availability of space, the volume of traffic, privacy and the required level of security. If determined to be appropriate for your system, our team can support you in securing your property and installing gates. We can provide a solution to meet the requirements of each gate installation, ensuring that all gates are CE marked and meet standards set out in BS EN 12978 and BS EN12453.

Check out our comprehensive selection of top-quality hinged, pedestrian and sliding gate systems which can be built to suit almost any industrial or commercial application. Our fully-enclosed heavy-duty motor systems can also be used to provide motorisation for these gates and any existing gates you might already have.

      turnstiles for perimeter security

      Perimeter Security

      Turnstiles

Our turnstiles are available in half and full-height versions to provide a solution for most personnel control situations. They can be purchased as standalone products or as part of an integrated approach to access control. The turnstiles can also be chosen as single or double versions, while you can also decide between 90 and 120-degree units. Whichever variation you opt for, you can be sure these are established systems with fantastic rust-prevention properties.

Access can be controlled further by requiring users to provide entrance authorisation. This can be a simple token or id card or with modern turnstiles which use more sophisticated access control systems that can include biometric data such as fingerprints or retina scanning.

Leading users to enter single-file allows security personnel to have a clear view of each user entering the premises and accurately record the number of entrants while easily identifying and isolating security threats.

Consideration must be taken for emergency scenarios that require rapid evacuation. Adequate fire exits that allow users to bypass turnstiles must be installed.

      Fences

Fences offer a quick and cost-effective solution to perimeter security. They can be used to clearly define the property boundaries and be enhanced with barbed wire and anti-climbing devices. Most fences, however, may not withstand vehicle penetration and can still be breached by cutting through the fence or tunnelling under.

Perimeter intrusion detection systems (PIDS) can be attached to fences around the property boundary to prevent undetected breaches. They will work with most metal fences, such as wire fencing, mesh fencing, palisade fencing, security railings and solid metal fencing.

Sensors detect vibrations caused by climbing, cutting or lifting the fence, which can identify intruders’ exact location. Sensors can monitor up to 1.5km of the boundary and can be concealed with vegetation to prevent tampering.

Fake alarms from animals and weather are prevented with alarm filtration. Sophisticated Algorithms have been developed to detect sharp frequencies in vibrations caused by climbing and filter out long vibration frequencies caused by weather or animals. Up to 500 levels of sensitivity can easily be adjusted to adjust to the environment and further prevent false alarms.
