How much of a burglar deterrent is your home?
Doing all you can to ensure your home is kept safe from the unwanted attention of burglars is essential but it can be difficult all the same to shake off the feeling that you have missed something out. In order to successfully safeguard against the threat of intrusion there are numerous measures you can put in place but taking a look at your home from the perspective of the burglar is particularly effective.
It can be easy to spot glaring gaps in your home security but it is also important to look for the less obvious ways that someone may try to find their way into your home. You may have got into a routine of hiding the key under a mat or a plant pot. If you do have to store keys somewhere, try to think 'outside of the box' and place the keys in more of an original place than simply underneath the mat!
There may also be a window that you leave slightly ajar overnight and while this might seem somewhat innocuous, it is vital not to leave yourself open in this way.
A very useful method to adopt is examining your property from the point of view of a would-be intruder. Can you see any way at all that they may be able to negotiate their way through? Attention has to be given to the locks you have and it is certainly worth the outlay to combine extra-strong door and window locks with an alarm system.
